Hanoi Vice-Chairman explained on November 6 that Hanoi’s satellite cities will be located in the west, north and south of Hanoi.

The Hoa Lac urban area will be developed in the west as the new centre for education and training, hi-tech, specialized healthcare, tourism and park-cemeteries. This will be the capital city’s western gate to other cities and its economic development region along the Ho Chi Minh highway.

In the north, Soc Son will be built into a centre for airport services, logistics, goods delivery centre and ecological tourism.

Phu Xuyen will be developed in the south, focusing on industry and goods delivery to support the development of Hanoi’s underdeveloped areas in Ung Hoa, Thuong Tin and My Duc districts.

These satellite cities will link with each other to make an economic corridor to support the urban nucleus of Hanoi.

Hanoi Vice-Chairman Nguyen Van Khoi stated that the city is facing many challenges, including a population that is increasing rapidly while Hanoi has not yet set up the necessary administrative, trade, financial and banking and international infrastructure.

According to the city’s comprehensive planning, the city’s nucleus and the satellite cities will be closely connected while the urban and the rural areas will be also linked. The plan aims to reduce the gap between the urban and rural areas gradually.

Green belts will take shape to ensure sustainable development. The city will restrict the concentration of people and economic centres to prevent the form of super-urban areas.
