HCMC will need around 280,000 workers next year.

The information technology and telecom industry is expected to recruit 7.7% of the demand. The administration, construction, transport and electricity sectors will also have high recruitment demands in 2010.

The need for laborers will increase next year as the local economy is estimated to recover, said Tran Anh Tuan, director of the center. However, recruitment will face many problems as many workers will not return to work after the Tet holiday.

The apparel and footwear sector is also forecast to be in need of workers in 2010. Many enterprises in the industry have registered to hire more workers to meet next year’s labor demand.

HCMC, as of the end of October, had created over 247,000 jobs, 91% of 2009’s plan, while the city has over 300,000 jobseekers this year. The city will need another 110,000 employees this year, including 60,000 short-term laborers.
