HCM City has ordered the Infrastructure Investment Joint Stock Company to set up a booth to refund toll collected on Ha Noi Highway from vehicles.

Vehicles coming along Ha Noi Highway will still pay the fees at toll booth and receive a receipt which they can present at the new booth to get a refund.

In the opposite direction; vehicles travelling from Cat Lai Port will receive a “free-of-charge” note at the new booth to travel past the toll station.

The problem began when the toll booth was relocated from near Sai Gon Bridge in District 2 to Rach Chiec Bridge (District 9) in August.

Many complaints

Many commuters and transport companies have been complaining that they are forced to pay the toll even though they do not use Dien Bien Phu Street.

Most container trucks usually travel between Cat Lai Port and depots in Binh Duong and Dong Nai provinces and do not touch Dien Bien Phu Street.

In September, the city transport association sent a complaint to the HCM City Inspectorate and the Viet Nam Standards and Consumers Association that the Infrastructure Investment Joint Stock Company had been collecting tolls arbitrarily even before the toll booth was moved, causing its members great losses.

The city has instructed the Department of Transport to look into the problem and provide an explanation to the association.

It also ordered police to collect evidence against container-truck drivers who refused to pay the toll and parked their vehicles unlawfully to block traffic on September 30 and November 2.
