Typhoon Mirinae hits central provinces

Mirinae’s eye has been very close to Binh Dinh and Phu Yen provinces, causing downpours in the central region.

In Quy Nhon, despite the local media’s warning of the coming typhoon, some fishermen still went to sea. A 27-year-old man was swept away.

In Phu Yen province, the typhoon came in at 3pm, November 2 with strong winds. The province evacuated 1000 people.

Khanh Hoa Vice-Chairman Le Xuan Than told Dan Tri that the storm hit Dan Ninh district. Some houses were damaged, but there are no reports of human losses.

In Quang Ngai, strong winds were recorded at noon November 2. On Ly Son islet, winds were measured at levels 9-10. Residents carefully prepared and no heavy losses have been reported so far, except for 40 hectares of damaged garlic.

Quang Ngai has evacuated over 400 people in endangered areas. All officials have been sent to districts and communes to guide activities against the storm.

According to a bulletin from the National Centre for Hydro-meteorology Forecast, at 3pm November 2, Mirinae hit the coast of the central provinces from Binh Dinh to Khanh Hoa, with wind strength from level 9 to 12.

In the next 12-24 hours, the storm is predicted to move west-southwest at 20 kilometers per hour and will weaken to become a tropical depression before disappearing.
