The crew from two US naval ships docked at the Da Nang Port repaired the doors and windows of a local elementary school on Sunday as part of goodwill activities during their stay in Vietnam.

Arriving at the city on Sunday aboard the USS Blue Ridge and USS Lassen, the 1,700 crew members also helped fix equipment at a local children’s playground and played friendly football and basketball matches with Da Nang University students.

The USS Lassen is commanded by Vietnamese-American Hung Ba Le, who said he and his crew had looked forward to their visit for a long time.

Before leaving Da Nang on Tuesday as scheduled, the crews will engage in other community activities including a visit to a local shelter for street children. They will also meet with the High Command of the Military Zone No.5 and Naval Zone C.
