First Vietnamese innovator honored at UN-run awards in Seoul

The head of a drainage and urban development firm in the southern coastal Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province on Monday became the first Vietnamese to win an award at the South Korea Innovation Fair this week.

Hoang Duc Thao, general director of the Ba Ria-Vung Tau Drainage and Urban Development Ltd. received the Golden Cup and the International Certificate at the Seoul International Invention Fair (SIIF) 2009, organized by the United Nation’s World Intellectual Property Organization and the International Federation of Inventors’ Associations.

The company also received a gold medal for two projects, one for an urban rainwater collection system and another for a network of dredge drains in rural areas.

A total of 463 scientific projects from 30 countries including France, Germany, Russia, Switzerland and China were sent to the fair December 3-7 in Seoul, capital of South Korea.
