The Hanoi Department of Transportation had submitted to the Hanoi authorities a plan to organize six express bus routes as of December 15, reported the department’s deputy director Nguyen Hoang Linh.

The six express bus routes will be: Long Bien – Dong My (No. 8), Giap Bat – Nhon (No. 32), Giap Bat – My Dinh (No. 16), Long Bien – Bac Ninh (No. 54), and Bac Co – Yen Nghia bus stop (No. 2).

According to Linh, these bus routes will operate Monday through Friday and will bypass many regular stops and avoid sites of traffic jams.

The Transportation Department proposed express bus service because, during peak hours, large numbers of passengers must wait at bus stops where bus drivers cannot stop because their buses are already crowded.

“We will put 12 expresses rapid buses into operation on December 15, with 88 cycles daily. If the idea is successful, express buses will be implemented on other routes,” Linh revealed.

Hanoi presently has 83 bus routes, with nearly 1000 buses transporting over 400 million passengers a year.
