Hanoi officials began inspections of 34 new residential areas in Hanoi on December 7 to detect violations in planning and social-technical infrastructure.

Hanoi Vice-Chairman Phi Thai Binh noted that the inspections would focus on new residential areas of over 20 hectares. “Many modern residential areas have not buried telecom and power cables yet while some others don’t meet environmental standards and lack markets and schools,” Binh explained.

According to the Hanoi Department of Planning and Investment, the capital city has 152 residential area projects of over 20 hectares. Among them, ten have been completed, 50 are being implemented and the rest are in the “site clearance” phase.

Hanoi authorities asked inspectors to check these projects and report the results to the Hanoi People’s Committee before December 25.

Tu Liem district has the most projects under examination – 10 – plus three other projects shared with neighboring districts. Eight projects in Hoang Mai district will be inspected, among others on the list.
