A woman in Hanoi was detained Thursday for random acts of violence on her neighbor that also hurt her 22-month-old bay.

The incident happened on October 16, when 41-year-old Vu Thi Thanh Binh threw boiling hot water from a basin on her neighbor Nguyen Thi Bich Diep when the latter was carrying her 22-month old child Tran Ha Vi.

The mother and child were rushed to hospital, where they were said to have suffered five percent and 10 percent burns respectively.

Binh said she had been “oppressed” by Diep and her husband and wanted to take revenge. The couple had swept trash to her house many times and burnt a coal stove that caused smoke to fly to her house, she said.

As Binh was a single mother, Diep accepted to have the case settled among themselves, without the authorities’ interference.

But Binh did not stop. On November 12, she attempted to cut Diep with a cleaver and then tried to bite the latter after she was stripped off her weapon.

The police are planning to charge Binh with “deliberately causing injuries.”
