Natural disasters have left 481 people dead or missing over the past 11 months, reported the General Statistics Office.

Natural calamities also destroyed public and private property, including 42,000 hectares of rice and subsidiary crops, 11,000 hectares of aquaculture area, 66km of dykes, 21.2km of embankments, 1,200km of road, 25,000 houses, totaling 23.2 trillion dong (US$1.277 billion).

The central province of Quang Ngai was the worst hit area with total damages of 4.9 trillion dong or $272.2 million, followed by Quang Nam province at 3.6 trillion dong ($20 million).

In November 2009, typhoon Mirinae caused floods and landslides in central and central highland provinces, leaving 126 people dead or missing and exacting a financial loss of 5.6 trillion dong.
