The HCM City People’s Council wants to know why construction of an eco-tourism project and entertainment centre in Binh Quoi – Thanh Da peninsula has not begun . . .

Many residential houses on Thanh Da Peninsula are in poor condition but not allowed to be repaired due to a long delayed development project. A proposal to return land to local residents is being considered by the municipal People’s Committee.

In 1992, the municipal People’s Committee prohibited the building, repairing or transferring of houses or land in Thanh Da Peninsula to serve the city’s planning and building plans.

However, no project has been launched in this area, and many residents’ houses, which were not allowed to be repaired, are falling apart.

In addition, landslides have swept away hundreds of houses surrounding the peninsula since 1992.

According to Nguyen Thanh Tai, deputy chairman of the People’s Committee, the city should have foreseen the eventual damage to residents’ homes.

Tai pledged that the standing board of the committee would work with responsible departments to discuss the return of land to the residents.

Some members of the council proposed that the city stop planning on the peninsula and allow local residents to repair, transfer and build houses.
