Quang Tri province’s officials met on December 28 to seek ways to control illegally-imported cattle into the province from Laos and Thailand. They agreed to ask for the government’s assistance.

Quang Tri Vice-Chair Nguyen Huu Thang said that illegal importation of cattle from neighbouring countries into Vietnam has become uncontrollable. On December 19 alone, 38 illegally-imported cows were stolen by a group of 80 people in Huong Hoa district.

Thang asked related agencies to strictly investigate and punish people related to this case.

He said that Quang Tri will consider allowing some companies to import cattle from Laos and Thailand. At the moment, local police and customs are asked to cooperate closely to prevent the smuggling.
