This company has also paid fines of 267 million dong for discharging untreated waste water into the Thi Vai river.

Authorities report that Vedan Vietnam has been trying to compensate for its violations. The company has reduced capacity and/or halted production lines to reduce the volume of waste water. The company has also begun collecting and treating waste water to meet national standards.

Vedan Vietnam has not yet compensated farmers along the Thi Vai river. The Dong Nai Department of Natural Resources and Environment asked the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to set the calculation methods to assess the damages and losses caused by Vedan Vietnam’s actions. This will serve as the foundation to gauge compensation amounts for farmers.
