A Vietnam Airlines aircraft made an emergency landing at a Russian airport due to a technical problem on Wednesday. There were no casualties, an airlines spokesperson said.

Le Hoang Dung, spokesman for the national carrier, said the incident happened when the plane ATR-72 MTI carrying 11 crew on board was around 20 kilometers from Novosibirsk City’s International Tolmachevo Airport, from where it had taken off when an oil leakage was spotted in an engine.

The pilot decided to return to the airport.

According to Dung, under a contract signed by VNA with the manufacturer Avions de Transport Régional (ATR), the plane was to fly to Toulouse City in France to be replaced with a new ATR72-500 plane.

The old plane is currently at the Russian airport, waiting for ATR to send spare parts needed to carry out repairs.
