A man who suffered an electric shock and fell off a scaffolding 10 meters high died of serious injures on the way to the hospital in the central Vietnamese city of Da Nang on Wednesday.

The 41-year-old only identified as Dau was hired to paint the house of Nguyen Khoa Duong Hanh on Nguyen Chi Thanh street.

He was climbing on to a scaffold that had been built in the midst of several electric wires, when he received an electric shock and fell.

Preliminary investigations showed several wires were defective and had caused a power leak.

Nguyen Van Thanh, a 50-year-old neighbor of the house that was being painted, said “I heard several big explosions from the wire in front of my house. I ran out to see Dau lying unconscious on the ground and his shirt was still smoking.”

Police are investigating the accident further.
