A vehicle owned by the Ministry of Health crashed into a motorbike in Hanoi Wednesday night, injuring two people on the bike.

The injured, whose names were not released, were rushed to the hospital after they were rear-ended on Giang Vo Street, in front of the ministry’s headquarters.

“The car drove very fast from a beer shop and hit the motorbike, throwing the passenger to the front of the car and the driver was thrown to the ground,” a witness named Lan told Vnexpress.

Tu, who was driving a motorbike behind the car at the time, said “I and another driver almost hit the boy who drove the motorbike when he fell.”

Tu said the car’s driver took off his jacket and ran away after the accident. He returned more than an hour later drunk.

The car was removed from the scene at around midnight.

Le Thanh Tri, deputy office chief of the ministry, told Vnexpress via phone that the car was the ministry’s and the driver was a ministry employee, but he said the driver would have to take full responsibility as the accident occurred while he was off-duty.

Tri didn’t reveal the name of the driver.

The car had recently returned from a seminar focusing on fighting malnutrition at children, according to a banner still hung on the vehicle.
