People in the midland city of Viet Tri, Phu Tho province and neighboring areas have recently flocked to the left bank of the Lo River to see a “giant footprint”.

The case began when lower water levels uncovered the print and word started to spread of its existence.

However, Do Trung Hoa, 70, who has been living in this region for nearly 50 years claims there’s nothing strange or magical about the footprint.

“In mid-2007, four men came here and carved that footprint. I saw it by my own eyes. I don’t understand why suddenly people are flocking to see it,” Hoa said.

Nguyen Trong Thanh, chief of the Viet Tri Port Mechanical Engineering Enterprise, said: “A group of men were seen carving this big footprint. However, due to rumors, around 200-300 people are now coming here to see the footprint ever day. The number of visitors is higher at the weekend”.

The “giant footprint” is 2.6m long and 0.8m wide. However, there are many traces showing that this footprint has been hard carved. However some visitors have left a mini altar including fruit offerings, an incense burner and paper money.

Local official, Bui Van Tai, said local authorities have asked local police and security guards to explain to visitors that the giant footprint is no mystery.
