Between January 18-20, many thousands of swallows flocked to Bac Lieu town in the southern province of Bac Lieu – a sight which attracted many curious tourists.

In ward 1, Bac Lieu Town, thousands and thousands of bird arrived in the early mornings and late evening. They perched on roofs, trees and electricity pylons.

Tran Thanh Phong, a local resident, said that swallows have visited before but this is the first time that such a large number of birds have flocked to the town.

Swallows not only came to Bac Lieu town but also the nearby rice fields. Local people have tried building bird houses in order to collect the valuable birds’ nests.

The strange phenomenon has created such a stir that a the town has found itself becoming a tourist attraction with people traveling to see the huge flocks of swallows.
