Two men were given death penalties on Tuesday for gunning down six people in the northern province of Quang Ninh in 2008.

However, the next morning, Son found that another group of coal collectors had stolen the coal.

He informed Phan Huy Nam, 34, of what had happened. Together with their group, they shot six people to death and injured another one.

Son and Nam received the death sentence, while Nguyen Van Quan, 28, was sentenced for life.

Dang Van Son and Ha Van Hung got 30 months and nine months in jail respectively.

The court also ordered the defendants to pay their victims’ families over VND330 million (US$17,871) in compensation.
