Two house roofs were smashed in Ho Chi Minh City Wednesday as a crane arm broke off and fell on them.

The arm of the crane dropped from nearly 30 meters at around 9a.m. The crane, belonging to Dung Tien Ltd., stands next to the houses on Thanh Xuan 21 Street, District 12.

Fortunately, there was no one killed as the houses’ occupants had gone out to work.

“I heard cracking sounds and before I looked up to see what was happening, the whole mass of iron fell right in front of me, around 5 meters away,” Duy, then doing some construction work right next to the wall of a damaged house, was quoted by local newswire Vnexpress as saying.

As of noon, the arm of the crane was still lying across the street.

The Dung Tien company, which produces sandpaper and glue, has been operating for six months now and using cranes to move goods.

Police are investigating the accident, which happened as the crane was lifting a car.
