Police in the northern city of Hai Phong have detained three people including a husband and wife after a victim of their human trafficking ring appealed for help.

Phung Ngoc Tung, 25, his wife Cao Thi Chien, 22, and Duong Vinh Khanh, 19, were arrested Wednesday for further investigation into the trafficking case, local newswire Vnexpress said Sunday.

Preliminary investigations showed that the three searched on the Internet for girls who “wanted to have fun rather than work,” the newspire reported. The girls were then given heroin until they became addicts, and then asked to earn money in China by working in brothels.

The ring was busted after a 18-year-old girl, whose name was not released, called home from China in Kien An District three months after she was reported missing, asking for help.

She and another 17 year old girl exploited by the same ring were rescued by Hai Phong police on January 8. Their information helped the police catch Tung, Chien and Khanh.
