Drugs and human trafficking, money laundering, terrorism and economic crime will be subjects for the Centre for Transnational Crime Prevention, introduced on March 30.

This centre was jointly established by the Ministry of Public Security’s General Department for Crime Prevention and the Australian police.

Senior Lieutenant General Le The Tiem, Deputy Minister of Public Security, maintained that this centre will fight transnational criminals related to drug and human trafficking, terrorism, high-tech and economic crimes operating in Vietnam and Australia.

Tony Negus, Commander of the Australian Federal Police, observeed: “We are facing new challenges in combating transnational criminals. By signing bilateral agreements, we can share information to seek effective measures to attack large-size criminal gangs.”

In 2008, Australian and Vietnamese police discovered and seized 400kg of ephedrine, enough to process 1.5 million pills of methamphetamine.

In addition, the centre will combine with other specialized forces in Vietnam like border guards, sea police and customs to combat transnational crime.
