After an appendix operation, a 44-year-old man had stomachache for several months. The pain just ended on May 24, when doctors removed a pad designed to stop bleeding that was mistakenly left in his abdomen.

A doctor from HCM City’s Trung Vuong hospital, where the compress was taken out, said that doctors who performed the appendix surgery left the compress on the man’s belly. This foreign body caused a lot of pain for the patient.

The man has recovered and he said that doctors of a hospital in District 10, HCM City carried out the appendix operation around six months ago. He went to several hospitals but they couldn’t discover the reason of his recent pain.

Doctors said that leaving medical equipment in patient’s abdomens happens sometime because operators don’t carefully check patient’s belly before closing the incision.
