Police in the northern port city of Hai Phong have arrested a young man for producing pen-shaped guns, the weapon which killed some people in the city recently.

While riding motorbike on the street, Vo Tien Dat, 24, was arrested with six pen-shaped guns and some bullets. He was prosecuted for illegally manufacturing and keeping weapon.

Dat declared that after seeing a pen-shaped gun of his friend, he decided to manufacture this type of weapon for sales. He hired several mechanical workers to produce different details and bought other necessary parts from a local market.

Since late 2009, Dat has manufactured over ten guns. He said he sold four guns to a man named Nguyen Anh Duong, 33, who is wanted by police.

Three murder cases have been reported in Hai Phong in over one year where pen-shaped guns where the likely murder weapon. A police officer said that this type of gun uses sports bullets (5.56mm) and it can kill people within the distance of five meters.
