Up to 43 percent of married men have extra-marital affairs, according to a survey released on May 25 by the Institute for Social Development.
Marriage laws leave women out in cold Men’s reproductive disorders reaching alarming level
According to this survey, 90 percent of married men loved their wives, so marriage quality seems to have no influence on their decision to have extra-marital sexual relations.
The survey of Vietnamese men’s sex life was conducted since 2007, with the participation of nearly 300 men from 15-60 years old in Hanoi, Ha Tay, HCM City and Can Tho.
The major reasons urging men to have affairs include taking revenge against wives who commit adultery, or simply for sex, which they don’t consider a violation of their commitment to their wives, revealed Vu Thanh Long, a representative of the survey group.
Notably, nearly 90 percent of men who had long-term sexual relations (over 6 months) with women who are not their wives, have one or more short-term sexual partner.
A high rate of men who are adulterers also suspect that their wives are doing the same thing, and they tend to become violent with their wives than with the other men.
Most of men think that having sexual relations before marriage is breaking rules of morality rules and women’s virginity is highly prized. But, up to 45 percent of the men admitted they had sex before marriage.
Many of them had sex with prostitutes, but didn’t use condoms. Two-thirds of married men never use condoms when they have sexual relations with their wives, Long explained.
This is among the first research works on the sexual life of Vietnamese men.
