VietNamNet Bridge – A 47 year-old man in the southern province of Ca Mau has become famous after he suddenly discovered his odd ability: floating in water.

Hua Hoang Cuong recounted that one month ago, after doing some farm work, he jumped down to the river near his field to have a bath. A big canoe came by, creating a large wave that swept him into the middle of the river. However, he didn’t sink, but bobbed along like a piece of wood. He was very surprised and verified the newly-discovered ability by lying down on the water’s surface. His body didn’t sink, even after several hours on the water and drifting for several kilometers.

Cuong’s strange ability has been talked about throughout the region. Hundreds have knocked on his door, asking him to “perform”. He complains that he is tired of this fame because he has to “perform” everyday at the request of an “audience”.

Cuong’s brother, Hua Ngoc Kien, noted that, since Cuong’s odd ability was discovered, his phone rings continuously. “Sometimes I’m annoyed, but I’m glad to see people admiring my younger brother,” Kien admitted.

Cuong is the sixth in a family of seven brothers. He has developed normally like his other family members, but he is bigger and taller. The man lives with his wife and two children.

On May 17, Cuong visited his brother in Bac Lieu province. Many people asked him to show off his odd ability at Ho Nam tourist site. Hundreds of people cheered. Witnessing Cuong’s performance, Tran Ngoc Phuong, deputy director of Bac Lieu Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism remarked this is not the first floating man in Vietnam, but agreed that it is a strange phenomenon.

Scientists still don’t know why some people can lie on water in any position without sinking.

Other floating men in Vietnam are Mrs. Tran Thi Dang, 82, in Long Ho District, the southern province of Vinh Long and Tran Thinh Tien, 6, from Chau Thanh district, the southern province of Tien Giang.
