After one year operating on a trial basis in North America, the Internet-based television channel for overseas Vietnamese (Viet Kieu) will expand to Europe and Asia, affirmed Deputy Minister of Information and Communications, Do Quy Doan, on June 1.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has permitted VTC group to develop this service on www.vtc.comvn, to place more servers in Europe and Asia and to bring this service to overseas Vietnamese in these regions. This website currently offers ten TV channels and four radio channels.

The most important issue now is advertising. Doan explained that, of around 4 million Viet Kieu in the world, just a modest number have access to this service. Advertisements, therefore, will be boosted in the coming time.

“We have to choose news that overseas Vietnamese need, not offer them what we have. For example, information about investments and consular formalities are very practical for them,” Doan noted.

A Foreign Ministry representative commented that this website will also be advertised on the Ministry’s website.
