VietNamNet Bridge – An AP story on Yahoo News about a Vietnamese taxi driver who returned bag with $26,500 to a passenger has attracted the special attention of many foreign readers.
According to AP, a forgetful employee left a bag with about $26,500 and important documents in the back seat of a taxi of the Cuu Long Petro Gas Service Transportation JSC in HCM City last week. The passenger called the cab company after he realized the bag was missing. The 23-year-old driver, Doan Thanh Xuan, heard the radio call and returned the bag unopened. He was given a $100 reward from the company and grateful passenger.
“Ill gotten, ill spent. The cab driver behaved very well, He will receive more than that money, sooner or later,” wrote a reader named Trong Chau on Yahoo! News.
“Wow. Amazing man! $26,500 goes a lot farther than it does in the United States. Good for him,” commented a reader with the nickname Mr. Nut.
“It’s nice to see little stories like this that show there are still good, honest people out there. Good on him,” wrote Ashley.
“Nice to know there are good people still left in the world. But reward $100 for $26,000 + important paper? What a cheap,” reader Heidi wrote.
“Thank you cabbie! I am so happy to see GODS work present in today’s world! The taxi driver could have got the money and ran of which he could end up in prison, but he will work all his life and might not be able to save that money, he deserved more than $100 I think he just didn’t know what was in the bag,” another reader wrote.
“The taxi driver did the right thing by turning in the bag of money he found in his cab, but I still think that he should have gotten a better reward than $100. This guy might have done the wrong thing by keeping the money and the guy who lost the bag of money would have been out a whole lot more than just the $100 tip he gave…..”
Many other people shared the same thought about the Vietnamese taxi driver. Some joked about this, while many others supposed whether this driver would always do the same in every case like this. But anyway, in this case, the international online community commented favorably on a Vietnamese man.
