Nguyen Van Sang, 28, was arrested for selling rare wild animals on Nam Ky Khoi Nghia Road, District 3, HCM City. Environmental police seized 19 living animals, including four kestrels, one hawk, one sa xa bird, 12 nhen birds and one wildcat.

Sang declared that he bought these animals from strangers to sell for profit. He added that the wildcat was from a man in the southern province of Vinh Long.

This man claimed that he is just practicing as a wild animal vendor, but HCM City Forest Protection Agency investigated him and confirmed that he has sold wild animals for over a year in HCM City.

The animals were brought to the Wildlife Rescue Centre in Cu Chi District, HCM City to be examined before they are released into the forest.

Forest rangers noted that, as Sang traded a wildcat, which is listed in the 1B group of rare wild animals, the case will be transferred to criminal court.
