EVN to halt power supply reductions as of July 1

| Electricity of Vietnam Group (EVN) has stated it will to not reduce power supplies to the provinces, except in special cases.
The need for power in July is forecast to be high, around 17.63 percent more than last July. EVN, however, will not reduce the power supply as of July because many power plants have resumed operation.
The life of Vietnamese people has recently been upset by power cuts. Many companies had to reduce output and failed to fulfill their contracts.
Power cuts hit people hard, and Quang Ngai provincial authorities asked to check the area’s power company power-cut schedule.
Phu Yen province Chair Pham Dinh Cu sent a dispatch to EVN and the Central Region Power Corporation complaining of power outages in his province.
The Ba Ria-Vung Tau People’s Committee last week appealed to Prime Minister Dung, asking that the Government instruct EVN and its Southern Power Corporation subsidiary to supply more power to the province.
Khanh Hoa Party Committee, meanwhile, urged the Politburo, the Party Secretary and the Prime Minister to investigate EVN’s power outage policy. The dispatch argues that Khanh Hoa contributes a high level of revenue to the budget, so it is unfair that electricity is doled out to provinces on an egalitarian basis.
Many international newspapers have devoted coverage to the “power crisis” in Vietnam.
