Chanchu, the second storm in the East Sea, is getting stronger. Forecasters say that it is heading to coastal region to the east of China’s Leizhou Peninsula, and later will move to Guangxi province before weakening.

Hydrometeorological forecast agencies observed that Chanthu is as strong as Conson. Chanthu will not hit Vietnam’s mainland, but it will affect the northern part of the Tonkin Gulf.

At 4am, July 21, Chanthu was around 210 kilometers to the north-northeast of Hoang Sa Archipelago. In the next 12 hours, the storm will move to the west northwest at the speed of 15 kilometers per hour. By 4pm, July 21, it will be 110 kilometers to the east of China’s Hainan Island.

The storm will move 15 kilometers per hour to the northwest and north northwest. By 4am on July 22, it will reach the coastal region to the east of China’s Leizhou Peninsula.

By 4am, July 23, it will hit China’s Guangxi province. In the subsequent 48-72 hours, the storm will penetrate the mainland and weaken into a tropical depression.

Chanthu will cause strong winds in the northern part of the East Sea, including Hoang Sa Archipelago, and seas will be very rough.

The Central Steering Board for Flood and Storm Control has asked all coastal provinces from Da Nang to Khanh Hoa and related agencies to inform fishermen of the storm.
