They publicly sell wild animals like snakes, monkeys, eagles, varans, porcupines, turtles, etc. on the pavement during the work finish hour (4-6pm). There are up to three vendors selling wild animals on 500m Le Hong Phong Road in District 10. Some wildlife vendors work on the pavement of Nguyen Binh Khiem Street in Phu Nhuan district.

The price for a small squirrel is around 200,000 dong ($10), 400,000 dong ($20) for a monkey, 1.5 million dong ($80) for an eagle, 1.4 million dong for a porcupine, etc.

Asking vendors on Le Hong Phong road about buying squirrels and porcupines in large numbers, they can contact traders in Cho Lon market.

Wild animals are also offered for sale online. Searching small ad websites, visitors will see many advertisements offering wild animals like porcupines, squirrels, and snakes.

Nguyen Huu Hung, a senior official from the HCM City Forest Protection Agency, admitted that wildlife vendors are very “vigilant” to inspectors. They often run away when they see rangers or even scramble for seized animals with rangers.
