VietNamNet Bridge – The city authorities on August 6 approved the Tien Phong Technology Joint Stock Company’s project to collect fees from cars entering the city’s hub.

The area for fee collection surrounds the following roads: Ly Thai To – Nguyen Van Cu – Chuong Duong Wharf – Ton Duc Thang, roads along Thi Nghe canal – Dan Chu construction site – 3/2 road – Le Hong Phong – Ly Thai To. These roads belong to Districts 1, 3 and 10.

An electronic fee collecting system called Electronic Road Pricing will be installed on these roads.

HCM City authorities will collect car fees as a method to curb traffic jams during peak hours. It will become the first city in Vietnam to do so.

HCM City plans to apply Singapore’s ERP system on a trial basis. This system works in the following way: drivers purchase their cards at banks and charge their cards via ATMs; when their cars go through ERP points, fee-collecting transponders on their vehicles will automatically deduct money.

If the cards don’t have enough value or the cars don’t have transponders, cameras at ERP points will film the cars and send the pictures to the control centre.

This technology is said to easily control cars. ERP systems can be fine-tuned to requirements of any time of day.
