More than 200 cars will be used to serve chiefs of state and 41 international delegations to Hanoi’s 1000th birthday celebration from October 1-10. Hanoi police has proposed banning cars in the inner city to prevent gridlock.

Hanoi Department of Foreign Affairs Chief Ha Van Que told the media that the French and Russian Presidents, the English Prince and many state leaders will attend Hanoi’s 1000th anniversary. The capital city will also welcome 62 delegations from provinces and cities in Vietnam.

International guests will stay at five-star hotels in Hanoi like Sofitel Plaza, Sofitel Metropole and InterContinental. Around 400 volunteers have been trained. The Hanoi Transport Corporation has prepared nearly 150 cars to serve guests.

They will attend the most important events, like the opening ceremony on the morning of October 1, the cultural and art show in the evening of October 1 and the parade on the morning of October 10. Around 1,200 guests will participate in the Gala Dinner at the National Convention Centre on October 9 evening.

The biggest concern now is traffic jams, especially on October 10 when the parade is held at Ba Dinh Square. Hanoi police propose to ban all cars in the city’s inner area. People must stop at gates and use public transport. The Hanoi Transport Corporation will organize parking lots at these points, which can host nearly 12,000 cars and motorbikes and arrange buses. Vehicles that take part in the parade will use logos. Twenty big-sized LED screens will be installed at public sites and parks to serve the people.

Hanoi Chair Nguyen The Thao reported that leaders of departments will be in charge of welcoming international visitors while leaders of districts will receive local delegations.

Thao added that the event is for the people, but not everyone will be able to cram into the inner city, so districts must organize events for their residents. The city has granted 200 million dong to each district and 50 million dong to each commune to organize such activities.

Hanoi Department of Construction deputy director Le Van Duc said that 32 roads have been repaired. The remaining roads – Nguyen Van Cu, Ton Duc Thang, Nguyen Luong Bang, Nguyen Trai, Nghi Tam-Au Co – will be completed on August 20. Districts have encouraged people to repair and paint front houses to welcome Hanoi’s 1000th anniversary.
