Tropical storm Mindulle, which battered north-central provinces on August 24, has killed 10 people and injured 64 others, reported the Central Committee for Flood and Storm Control.

Soldiers helped Nghe An people after the storm left.

Nghe An was hardest hit with 6 deaths, followed by Ha Tinh with 3 and Quang Binh with 1. Total property damage was estimated at 850 billion dong ($44.7 million), including 600 billion dong ($31.5 million) from Nghe An.

Ten fishermen, whose vessel was sunken on August 23, were saved by the navy, and seven of them were brought ashore on August 25. They were taken to a hospital in the city of Da Nang for treatment.

Another navy ship was sent to bring the remaining three fishermen to Da Nang, scheduled for August 26.

The Central Committee for Flood and Storm Control asked storm-hit provinces to keep a close watch on water levels which are rising quickly in major rivers in the central region as a result of the storm. It asked the provinces to put rescue forces on standby to deal with the worst possible cases.

Even though Mindulle dissipated, it is still causing heavy rain in north-central provinces. Weather experts warned mountain localities of flash floods and landslides.

Meanwhile, whirlwinds on August 25 tore off roofs of more than 160 houses in Trang Viet commune, Me Linh District, Hanoi. Ten people were injured, of whom five seriously injured are being treated at Me Linh hospital.
