A big explosion occurred at the Hai Phong thermo-power plant in the northern port city of Hai Phong on August 3, immediately killed two and injuring five others.

According to witnesses, the explosion occurred at 8am when seven workers were transporting chemical casks from the power plant warehouse to another place.

Two of them, a 31-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman who were in the warehouse died immediately. Five others who were outside the warehouse were injured and lost consciousness. They were brought to a local hospital for emergency aid.

The explosion created a large hole in the warehouse wall and forced the fence behind the warehouse to collapse. Hours after the accident, a thick layer of light yellow smoke and a noxious smell covered a nearly one kilometer radius.

Police are investigating the case. It is suspected that the explosion came from a chemical keg.

On July 17 an explosion occurred at this plant, injuring two foreign workers.
