VietNamNet Bridge – Hundreds of workers at the construction site of Dakrinh hydro-power plant in Son Tay district in the central province of Quang Ngai are worrying after a machine with radioactive substance disappeared.

Nguyen Duy Nghia, the vice chief technician of Dakrinh Hydropower JS Company, confirmed that a Troxner radioactive machine, used to measure concrete compression, was stolen on September 26.

Workers are worrying for their health if the thieves destroy the machine and it leaks radioactive substance.

The entire construction site was searched, but the machine was not found. The project investor reported the case to the police.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Hong Thanh, vice chief police officer of Son Tay district, told VNExpress online newspaper that this case was transferred to Quang Ngai province police for investigation. He said the machine is worth 300 million dong ($15,000).

The 125 MW Dakdring hydropower plant cost more than 4.5 trillion dong ($225 million), invested by the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group, Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam, Licogi and Song Da Corporation. The plant is scheduled to begin operating in 2014.
