Thousands of dead fish covered the beach of Cua Lo, a famous tourist site in Nghe An, on September 10. The bad smell from dead fish drove away tourists. Residents stated that these were sardines, which live in schools in the sea. They explained that the fish might have been killed by mine explosions caused by fishermen two days ago. Others claimed the fish died from pollution. They competed to gather the dead fish to make cooking for cattle. Area authorities sent workers to the beach to collect the fish on the same day.
