VietNamNet Bridge - An employee of a design and printing company in HCM City attacked seven members of his employer’s family with a hammer on September 26, leaving three of them in critical condition.

The man, named Duong Van Nuoi, 30, from the central province of Binh Dinh, came into the house at 5:30am and attacked his employer, Le Cong Quang, 39, while the man was brushing his teeth.

Hearing the noise, Quang’s three brothers and sisters Le Cong Tuong, 30, Le Thi Hien Nuong, 26, and Le Thi Hong Hoa, 24, rushed to his aid along with Quang’s wife – Pham Thi Hong Chi, 30 - and his niece, Le Thi Ngan, 19. Nuoi then attacked these people.

Quang’s wife – Hong Chi - rushed into her room and locked it to protect her 13-month-old son, Le Cong Quoc Thang. Nuoi broke down the door and hit the baby on his head. Chi threw herself on the child and took several blows on her head.

Nuoi then ran out the gate and began hitting himself in the head with the hammer, attempting to kill himself, but neighbors intervened and saved him. They also called the police, who came and arrested him.

At least three of the victims are still in critical condition, including Quang, Mong Chi, and Ngan.

In 2004 Nuoi was jailed for a year for theft. After his release, he was employed at the design and printing company named Huong Sinh. He quit and returned to Binh Dinh until September 2010, when Huong Sinh company director Quang called Nuoi back to work at the company.

Employees at the company reported that Nuoi they were unaware of any dispute with a colleague and stated that he had not acted unusually. However, they did note that Nuoi was sometimes very sad and despondent. His colleagues asked about his concerns, but he didn’t answer.

Nuoi received his salary for September and planned to return to Binh Dinh on September 26. However, the attack happened in the early morning on that day.

Nuoi declared that he was despondent, wanted to die and he hammered seven people in his boss’ family just to have someone who would die with him.

One victim, Hong Hoa, claimed that Nuoi was addicted to gambling and had told her that he was facing big debts.
