Chien explained that, after marriage, she suffered a miscarriage and then doctors told her she would not be able to have children. In desperation, she didn’t tell her husband and looked for cures at many clinics. A woman with the same problem Chien a phone number for a man rumored to be able to help women get pregnant.

Chien called and he gave her instructions to get pregnant. Her stomach became bigger and bigger, just like that of a pregnant woman, so Chien completely believed in the man.

To “maintain the development of the fetus” and not make her family suspicious, Chien went to Hanoi periodically to have pregnancy tests as instructed by the strange man. In reality, she didn’t go to a doctor, but instead made a cash drop-off at a predetermined location. She then received envelopes that contained pregnancy test references to show her family.

They told Chien to lie to her family when she didn’t deliver a baby after nine months and ten days. Finally, they told her to bring 10 million dong ($500) to the gate of Hanoi Obstetrics Hospital on August 20 to have a caesarian.

When the media reported Chien’s strange case, these people continued calling Chien to force her to lie until she gave them 10 million dong. After that, they disappeared, warning that if this case is exposed, her family will be harmed.

For that reason, Chien tried to hide the truth and ran away from home.

Chien’s stomach is now flat as normal. She still doesn’t understand why her stomach could develop though they didn’t give her any drug. She guessed that perhaps her stomach got bigger after she met the strange man and drank a glass of water with him.

“I only want to unmask the cheaters who upset my life and my family. I hope my family will forgive me!” Chien asserted.

Chien’s husband, Nguyen Van Tuan, admitted: “I was very shocked. I only wish that it will pass quickly so my family can be stable.”

Chien and her husband expect that authorities will uncover the scam artists to help other victims.

According to Dan Tri online newspaper, there are some women in Hoang An commune, Hiep Hoa district, Bac Giang province who have been pregnant for 15-16 months and one in Binh Tan district, HCM City who has been pregnant for over 22 months.

Chien believed that many women, not only her, may be the victims of such cons.
