The victim was transported to Hanoi by helicopter.

Hewvik Gorbow, 42, was in distress while he was climbing up mount Fansipan, the highest mountain in Southeast Asia on September 5.

He was brought to the hospital at 6pm, September 5 with a serious wound to his chest. The man also lost a lot of blood.

Doctors conducted a five-hour operation to take out 2.5l of stagnated blood inside his chest cage and gave a blood transfusion to save the man.

After the urgent operation, he was moved to a bigger hospital in Lao Cai and then to Hanoi by helicopter on September 8.

Fansipan Mountain is located 9km south-west of the town of Sapa in the Hoang Lien Mountain Range. At a height of 3,143 meters, Fansipan has been called “the Roof of Indochina”. Regarded as one of the few genuine eco-tourist facilities in Viet Nam, the area boasts some 2,000 plant varieties and 327 species of animals.
