Aid teams tried to transport goods to the victims of the floods but were hindered by the division of water.

Naval ships dispatched to the sea offshore near Quang Binh rescued 14 fishermen.

In Quang Tri, rains and floods eroded away many parts of the Ho Chi Minh highway, National Highway No 9, and some traffic roads between communes.

The same day, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung asked the flooded provinces to mobilize rations of instant noodles and bottled water for the victims.

The Ministry of Public Security also asked all its departments and provincial police forces to evacuate people from the areas near lakes and dams which are vulnerable to landslides and flash floods.

The local police were also instructed to launch patrols in affected areas and guide locals for safe travel. They will join in the search for the missing and help local people disinfect their living areas and stabilize their lives.

Vietnam Red Cross urges assistance for central provinces

The Vietnam Red Cross (VRC) called for the nation on October 6 to help people in the central provinces affected by heavy floods.

Under the appeal, the VRC urge all people, especially its members, volunteers and other individuals and organisations to provide assistance the central provinces of Nghe An, Quang Binh, Ha Tinh, Quang Tri and Thua Thien-Hue city to overcome the natural calamity and stablize their lives.

The VRC asked the local Red Cross associations to quickly evacuate people to safer regions, send cooking and drink and relief aid to people in flooded areas, provide medical aid to the injured, and maintain dykes.

A campaign for collecting money, food and clothing donations was launched nationwide and will last until November 15.

The Vietnam Red Cross (VNRC) on October 5 granted VND820 million in cash and goods as relief aid to flood victims in the central provinces of Quang Binh, Ha Tinh and Nghe An.

VNRC said it would work with International Red Cross and Red Crescent Society, and several counterparts, to collect more support for the victims.

Recently, rain-triggered floods have seriously damaged provinces in the northern-central region, leaving 13 people dead, three others missing and inundating thousands of houses and large areas of rice and crops.
