Of nearly 6,000 wishes for Hanoi sent to a contest held by HSBC on the occasion of the capital city’s 1000th anniversary, many people wished Hanoi would be out of gridlocks, floods and become a green, clean and beautiful city.

After nearly one month, the contest received 5,800 wishes sent to Hanoi from people throughout the country. The longest wish contains nearly 2,600 characters.

Many young people had simple wishes, for example that Hanoi would not be flooded, would not have traffic jams or beggars, etc. However, some people wished for Hanoi to become a “Paris of Asia” or to be the capital of the world’s 10th economy in the future.

“I wish Hanoi would have no street kids, vendors and beggars… And people would get closer to each other to share love and compassion everywhere.” The wish helped Nguyen Hanh Le enter the top ten contestants.

The contest was launched on August 30 to collect a thousand best wishes to mark the 1000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi.

Along with the programme, for each chosen wish, HSBC donated VND500,000 to Tuoi Tre newspaper’s fund. A total of VND500 million was granted to 100 disadvantaged students in Hanoi.
