Techcombank officials inspect an ATM from which $67,000 was stolen on Friday

A safe containing nearly VND1.3 billion (US$67,000) was stolen from an ATM kiosk in Ho Chi Minh City Friday morning, VnExpress reported.

The thief used a drill to cut a hole 40×60 centimeters in the Techcombank kiosk and removed the currency inside.

Bank staff were first informed of the theft by a resident who was unable to make a withdrawal at around 6 a.m.

In the early morning of October 21, the city reported its first ATM theft. The crooks made off with nearly VND1 billion that day. It was not yet clear which bank the teller machine belongs to.

The same crew is believed to have attempted another ATM heist soon afterward, but they were foiled by bank guards.
