Hanoi donates $100,000 to Cambodian victims

On behalf of the Hanoi people, Party Secretary Pham Quang Nghi has offered a letter of condolence to the Phnom Penh city for the stampede disaster that killed and injured hundreds of people on November 22.

According to Nghi, Hanoi people were very sorrowful for the disaster in Phnom Penh on November 22. On behalf of 6.5 million Hanoian people, the Hanoi Party Committee, People’s Council and the Hanoi Fatherland Front would like to convey their deepest condolence to the government, the people of Phnom Penh and the victims’ families.

On behalf of Hanoi people, Pham Quang Nghi hope the government and people of Phnom Penh overcome the pain and quickly deal with the aftermath.

To partly assist the victims, Hanoi presents Phnom Penh VND2 billion ($100,000).

The stampede happened on a bridge that links Phnom Penh’s centre to the Diamond Island on November 22, the last day of the Water Festival.

According to Phnom Penh chief police officer, at least 7000 people were on the bridge when the stampede occurred. By November 25 morning, the dead toll was 347, the Cambodian Social Affairs Ministry said.

Nine Vietnamese died and ten others were injured in this disaster.
