State utility Electricity of Vietnam said the country will continue to face power shortages this month despite more floods and rain being forecast in the central region.

The company, often known as EVN, said the country’s total power output in November will be around 280 million kilowatt-hours per day.

According to the Vietnam News Agency, this month’s shortfall is due to ongoing maintenance at several thermal power plants. Recently built plants are still not at full operational capacity, either.

EVN said it will operate hydropower plants at the highest possible capacity and continue to purchase power from China to ensure supply.

The company brought a total 4.55 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity from China in the ten months ending October.

Low water levels at power plant reservoirs caused power production at the plants to fall 26.53 percent in October compared to the same month last year.
