Tuy Hoa Town in the central province of Phu Yen was heavily flooded on Monday

Heavy rains Sunday triggered a new round of floods which have already claimed at least one life in the central region of Vietnam, the Central Committee of Storm and Flood Control reported Tuesday.

The victim was 55-year-old Nguyen Chan from Phu Yen province, it said in an online report, adding that he was swept away while crossing a creek.

Many of the province’s roads have been closed by the fifth round of flooding to hit the central coast since the end of September.

Torrential rains will continue slamming the region for the next one to two days, according the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting (NCHMF).

The recent floods have left 200 people dead, damaging thousands of homes as well as thousands of hectares of crops in Vietnam’s central coast.
