Severe winds capsized ships and boats off the central coast of Vietnam, leaving four fishermen missing, according to the Rescue Department under Vietnam’s Border Guards.

In Thua Thien – Hue city Province, a fishing boat carrying five people was slammed by big waves and winds, when it was heading offshore at around 6 a.m.

The provincial rescue force tried to approach ship, but couldn’t due to severe waves.

Fifty-five year old Nguyen Thanh Cau’s boat sank, leaving four of five fishermen missing.

The other was saved while adrift in the ocean.

Meanwhile, a ship carrying 27 people and 1,000 containers belonging to the Hanoi-based Vinalines Container Shipping Company sunk off the coast of Quang Binh Province after encountering rough waters and big winds.

All people aboard hopped into lifeboats, according to the National Committee for Search and Rescue, adding that they are approaching the boat to rescue them.

Another 26 fishermen were rescued off the coast of Quang Ninh Province when their boat crashed into the rocks.

Quang Ngai Province reported eight fishing boat accidents.

Fifty three fishermen were all saved later the same day.

In the meantime, rescuers in Quang Nam province are trying to rescue two fishing boats with nine people onboard which were set adrift after their motors failed.

Another fishing boat’s motor broke down in Quang Nam and drifted but was rescued later that day.

Two crew members had lost consciousness when the crew was rescued.
