Around 1,000 Vietnamese expatriates will return home for a program entitled "Xuan Que Huong" (Homeland Spring) that will be held at the Thang Long Imperial Citadel on January 28.

At a press briefing in Hanoi on January14, Nguyen Thanh Son, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Head of the National Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, said this was not only an annual event for overseas Vietnamese to celebrate the Tet (Lunar New Year) festival, but also a program to welcome the 11th National Party Congress’s success.

Under the program, Party and State leaders, representatives from the Buddhist Church of Vietnam, and overseas Vietnamese representatives will attend an incense burning ceremony at the Kinh Thien palace to express their gratitude to the kings who founded the nation.

The cultural program will bring together a great number of famous singers at home and abroad with patriotic and other songs.

Some short reports to affirm Vietnam’s position in the international arena during the integration period will be also projected at the event.

According to the National Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, there are at present around 4 million overseas Vietnamese living and working in more than 100 countries and territories worldwide.
