The People’s Supreme Procuracy, Vietnam’s premier prosecuting agency, has decided to charge a woman with trafficking 4.3 kilos of heroin from Malaysia into Vietnam.

According to the indictment, Nguyen Thi Nen, 47, a native of Ho Chi Minh City, arrived at Hanoi’s Noi Bai Airport on a flight from Malaysia on January 22 with the drug in her suitcase.

Prosecutors said before being arrested following the discovery of drugs in her suitcase, Nen was engaged in a romantic relationship with a foreigner from Africa and usually went overseas as a tourist.

Vietnam has some of the world’s toughest drug laws. Those who smuggle more than 600 grams of heroin into the country can be sentenced to death.
